Steeped in History
Historic 17th century building where the beheading of the Clan MacNab Chief at the hands of the Clan MacDonalds took place!
The Head was hung from the wall as a warning to the clans Campbell and NacNab – and if you look close you will see it still in its resting place.
The MacNab clan of Callander in the Trossachs has a storied history in Scotland. Emerging in the 13th century, they were known for their bravery and strategic prowess. The clan played a significant role in Scottish conflicts, including the Wars of Independence. While facing challenges during the Jacobite uprisings, the MacNabs preserved their identity and traditions. Visitors to Callander can explore the clan’s history and immerse themselves in the beauty of the Trossachs, witnessing the enduring spirit of this ancient Scottish clan.
